New Year, New Races

New Year, New Races

Do you have any races booked up yet for 2014?

This time last year, I was toying with the idea of running a half marathon. I had no runs planned, and I had no idea that I’d run quite as much during 2013!

I’ve been checking out a few sources for runs during 2014:

The Running Bug

Runners World

The Scottish Running Guide

As well as listings inside Women’s Running magazine.

I’ve signed up for the Rock ‘n’ Roll Madrid Half Marathon, but that’s the only one…. so far!

Here’s the ones I’m thinking about running, or hoping to run, right now:

Rock ‘n’ Roll Liverpool, 25 May

The Color Run, hopefully in Glasgow as they’re meant to be having one there in 2014

The Kilt Run, Perth

Mull of Kintyre 10K. Maybe the half instead- part of it is on sand, though.

Tarbert’s TT10K

Spartan Race, Edinburgh

Great North Run

Great Scottish Run

I’m toying with a longer run: maybe a 20 miler, or maybe a Tough Mudder. Hmmmmm.

How do you find new races?

Do you have any runs planned for 2014?

  1. I’m with Pirate – I tend to pick races based on the bling (and perhaps the after party) 🙂 Runner’s World is a great tool for exploring new races. I also search running blogs for race recaps.
I’m jealous of your (potential) race locations!

    1. Yay! I got the World Rocker medal this year for running Edinburgh and Dublin, so I’m after another next year 🙂 thanks for the link, I’ll check it out.
Will keep a look out for you guys 🙂

  2. That’s a well developed plan already!
I’ve got silverstone half in March. I chose it because it was my first (and only) half marathon and I wanted to see if I had been able to make any improvement in that time and running the same course would be objective. However, I’ve got a few friends running Bath half on the same day so I might drop silverstone and do Bath instead. Decisions decisions.
And then there is Paris marathon early April, and some idiot at my work is trying to organise a group of us to do tough mudder end if April. Said idiot is me, naturally.

    1. Lol! Sounds like you have a busy March/April planned! I’ve heard good things about the Silverstone half.

      1. It is a good course, basically flat and there is something about starting and finishing at the same line as the Grand Prix drivers, but it is a boring run. Well organised sure, but a bit boring.
Hence looking to swap it for Bath and some more scenery.

      2. Quick change of topic – being a Tartan Jogger might you be able to recommend a ‘must do’ run on Skye?
        Thanks in advance!

      3. Oooh, you heading to Skye? Lovely!
I’ve only been once, but would love to go back. I know a photographer on Skye, and someone who holidays there a lot, so I’ll ask around for you! 🙂

  3. I’m entering the Two Oceans Trail Run in a few weeks time. It’s a big race in April that I’m looking forward to! Glad you’re setting out a race plan for yourself, that’s where all the PR’s come from right! 🙂
