SCHOOL’S OUT FOR SUMMER!

SCHOOL’S OUT FOR SUMMER!

Sorry, I felt the need to shout that out!

This evening, @thewelshwookie and I are going to enjoy some music in the village, as its the Viking Festival this weekend. It’s also the traditional boat festival, and for those coming along, it will be a great weekend.

We’ll miss the rest of the weekend fun in Tarbert as tomorrow we’re off to see my brother Joe bungee off the Titan crane! Eek!

And then, on Sunday, we’re off to our other favourite place on the planet, Tenerife.

Can’t wait to see this beautiful island again!

I’ll be posting from time to time over the next couple of weeks, when WiFi and time allows.
Do you have any plans for the next fortnight?

The Sights You See!

The Sights You See!

After days of wall-to-wall sunshine, I awoke this morning to the Return of The Rain. Boo.

But, the flowers got a good water. Hurrah!

And, as I was driving into work this morning, bleary eyed and thinking about my holiday starting at the end of this week, I was startled by an unexpected sight! No, not more cows on the beach 😉 but something you certainly don’t see every day.

I saw a lady walking down the street, smartly dressed, and looking like she was on her way to work. Nothing odd about that, you say?

Well.

Yes……..

But, she was wearing one of these:

HATT-5580

Seriously, she really was!

I can only assume that she had misplaced her brolly during the recent spell of dry weather!

Certainly not a sight I expected to see at 8am, but it made me laugh 😀

Have you seen any strange sights while out ‘n’ about recently?

Monday Motivation

Monday Motivation

Happy Monday! Did you miss me, as I’ve been AWOL the last few days? 😉

I’m afraid that I’ve been nursing a bit of an ankle injury. Well, erm, I haven’t actually injured it yet, but it has been feeling a little tender, just how it did before I damaged the ligaments two and a half years ago.

I’ve been very lucky, as I’ve been injury-free since then. But, with a holiday to Tenerife starting this weekend, I really don’t want to take any chances. The last thing I need is to be hobbling up and down hills on holiday!

So, my marathon training has been paused, though I’d much rather take a few days off from running now, than be forced into weeks of RICE. 🙂

I did do gardening and weeding this weekend, leaving me with some mighty DOMS: surely that counts as cross-training, right?

Here are four very simple, but very powerful words:

Be it training for a marathon, recovering from injury, or anything else, this is so true. Don’t you think?

Celebrating World Gin Day!

Celebrating World Gin Day!

I  mentioned yesterday that @TheWelshWookie and I had been to one of our very favourite places on Saturday: Portavadie Marina.

We were looking for any excuse, really, to take a trip on the new hybrid ferry, MV Lochinvar 😉 What better excuse than to go for lunch – and celebrate World Gin Day – at Portavadie!

The weather was absolutely beautiful: it was gloriously sunny as we strolled down to the ferry terminal. We popped into a few shops on the way, buying  bottle of white grape & elderflower presse for adding to gin later on in the evening.

The first thing we noticed about the new ferry was how quiet she was! The engine, being a hybrid, merely purred, making for such a pleasant journey. The interior lounge has much more seating than before, and there are two observation areas with seating on the upper decks. Impressive!

We arrived at Portavadie, and walked around to the marina. We saw that construction is now under way on the leisure complex: I can’t wait until the pool and its facilities are built!

As we entered the restaurant, we were greeted by Chris, who’s service is always fantastic. We took a seat on the sofas while we perused the lunch menu, and ordered a Botanist gin each. Oh, my. It’s definitely my absolute favourite gin of the moment: it’s from Islay, which is much more famous for its whisky. We had a chat with Ian, the General Manager, and it was so great to hear of the future plans for Portavadie: it’s exciting times ahead!

When we were ready we were seated for lunch. Most of the other guests had opted to sit outside, but I much prefer to eat indoors (I’m weird, I know). I had the smoked haddock with mustard potato salad and pancetta crisp; @TheWelshWookie had Tarbert scallops with black pudding and roasted potatoes. Both were -ma-zing!

Of course, we also had dessert. I had a white chocolate mousse with mini toffee apples and raspberry sorbet; @TheWookie had pineapple crumble with coconut ice cream. Yum.

After taking a stroll around the marina, having a look in the shop (of course), we had another G&T before heading home on the ferry.

We had a fabulous day, as ever!

Did you celebrate World Gin Day on Saturday? Do you prefer to eat indoors or outdoors?

Monday Motivation

Monday Motivation

Are you having a good Monday?

We’ve had glorious sunshine all weekend, and today, and it’s set to continue over the next few days. Hurrah!

Did you celebrate World Gin Day on Saturday? I did – I’ll tell you more about it later in the week 😉

Yesterday, I got in my first run (at home) in a vest – summer is definitely on its way!

Here’s something that jumped out at me recently: I really do think that it is true….

Just remember, when you’re in the midst of the chaos, calm waters aren’t too far away.

Are you enjoying summer weather where you are?

A Friday Funny

A Friday Funny

Happy Friday all! Hope you all have a busy weekend, with lots of running planned 🙂

I hope you’ve survived today, being Friday the 13th, and a full moon. Spooky!

I stumbled across this on the satire site Waterford Whispers News and it really made me laugh. I hope you enjoy it for what it is, no offence is intended!

Jogging Couples

@TheWelshWookie and I are settling down with a Cava to watch Spain v The Netherlands.

What are your plans for tonight? Do you ever run holding hands with anyone? 😉

News Round Up

News Round Up

Hello! How has your week been?

I have a couple of wee bits of news to share with you tonight:

Fever Struck

Have you been affected by the condition ‘world cup fever’? Be careful – it can be serious! 😉

So, tonight we see the kick off of the world cup. As an auntie to seven nephews, I think that football is going to be an important topic of conversation over the next few weeks! To keep us interested, we’ve had a family sweepstake, and my teams are France and Japan! @TheWelshWookie has Germany and Equador. Tonight’s game sees my dad and my brother Joe going head to head.

Mo Runs

In other news, Mo Farah has announced that he will be running the 5,000 and 10,000 metres at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. Hurrah! I’m really looking forward to seeing him run the 10,000m.

Expansion

In my post last week, I’d mentioned that we’d gone to Campbeltown on an errand. We had something to collect. Do you want to know what it is?

It’s………….

20140612-184447-67487638.jpg 20140612-184446-67486246.jpg

Yip; an exercise bike! So, our home gym is now complete. We have the bike to complement the rowing machine, the treadmill, the free weights, resistance bands, etc. Now that I’ve started my marathon training, I think I have to take my cross training a bit more seriously, and not count a walk to the cafe as cross training! 😉

Yesterday, I did 18K on the bike. My legs were burning, using long neglected muscles, but I feel fine today, fortunately. DOMS might kick in tomorrow, though! My little toe is still pretty sore from the blister and bruising from Sunday, so I’m going to give it a couple more days and give it a test on Saturday’s long run.

So, who’s your pick for the World Cup?
