Monday Motivation

Good morning! And what a glorious morning it is. The sun is shining and I’ve been for a run already- 4 gloriously sunny miles☀️

I’ve had a good week- my fitness plans have been on track and I’ve eaten well. Here’s a quick recap:

Monday: we went for a lovely walk around the harbour. After a busy weekend it was a good start to the week.

Tuesday: only one class, but we used the Pilates hoops again at Sculpt which really challenged my muscles in new ways. The DOMS were real!

Wednesday: an informal run with the Jog Scotland crew. We’re now on a summer break but still meeting informally until the next session in the autumn.

Thursday: two lots of activity for me- I had a trail run at lunchtime followed by PiYo in the evening. It was the last session of round 61 and it was tough!

Friday: I spent the day doing housework and managed to rack up around 10k steps so I did well for a rest day!

Saturday: we had the end-of-block run with Jog Scotland, a Viking 5k, since it was the Viking Festival Weekend. I started slowly and picked up pace as I went , running mile 3 at 9’40 pace- quick for me! We all were given fab mugs with Tarbert Jog Scotland on one side and a pic of Tarbert on the other. Love them!

In the afternoon we spent it in the sunshine, tidying the garden: grass cutting, strimming, jet washing and weeding. We were out there for over 5 hours, and I racked up over 20,000 steps 😊

Sunday: the weather was lovely, so we went for a walk to recover from the day before, before watching the Viking boat carry later in the day.

Loved it! I’m off to a good start this week, but we have no classes so I’ll have to rely on my own momentum to keep myself focussed this week.

Here’s something that resonates with me today:

Make the most of it- and have a great week!

Happy Easter! I’ve had a wonderful weekend- how about you?

I was still getting over my chest infection this week so my activity levels haven’t been back to normal yet, but I am getting there. Meanwhile my eating has been, well, far from ideal – but I’m really not worried about it. Back on track between now and Florida 😉

Monday: travelling back from our trip away, but we did get a walk in. Nothing else.

Tuesday: back at class- yes! Sculpt was great, it’s tough, challenging, but feels very good indeed. That was followed by Trigger Point Pilates, which was ace.

Wednesday: back to Jog Scotland and it was my first run in 10 days. We ran for 40 minutes, which was around 3.6 miles. Thoroughly enjoyed it, and boy did I need it!

Thursday: a walk in Lochgilphead

Friday: three hours of gardening- I’m counting it!

Saturday: a walk to and from Portavadie as well as a lovely day in the Spa there

Sunday: a trip to Gigha, so we enjoyed a fab walk around the island

All in all, I still have a way to go to get back to my previous fitness levels before my chest infection, but a bank holiday 10k run today has helped to boost my confidence with that.

And here’s something I’m reminding myself of:

Have a good week!

Monday Motivation: Three Weeks Until Spartan Day

Monday Motivation: Three Weeks Until Spartan Day

I can’t believe that, in three week’s time, it will all be over and I’ll have- hopefully- completed my first Spartan Run. Eek! This is hurtling towards me at an accelerated pace, and I’m hoping that my nod towards training is enough to see me through.

As I said in last Monday’s post I started the week with WAR. And I had DOMS for days, I definitely pushed myself! On Tuesday I did a 5k run/ walk which felt good, but reminded me that my body isn’t quite 100% yet, my left leg still felt a bit off and weak. I’m hoping that my runs this week will show an improvement, but who knows.

I had an unanticipated busy week, with a trip to Islay on Wednesday meaning that I missed my regular Jog Scotland run. I was out on Thursday night and so I missed PiYo but I managed a walk and a little cross training on both nights which was better than nothing. Since then, I’ve had visitors all weekend for the Seafood Festival, which is one of the best weekends of the year in Tarbert. This year was no different: it was really wet but we had great fun, great food, excellent company and a few cheeky drinks including the newest addition to the local gin collection: Kintyre Gin   I’ve had a day off today, which had mostly been spent getting beds stripped and washed, and catching up on a few things around the house. We have a quiet weekend coming up, with no visitors which will be nice as we’ve enjoyed company for the past three weekends. I’m hoping that this week will give me a chance to keep my fitness goals on track. I’m heading to WAR later today, we’ll see how that goes after such a busy weekend 😉

We then have a trip to London planned before the Spartan Race, so I’ll be doing what I can between times to keep up. Eeek! Here’s some Monday Motivation that I’m holding on to- I hope it works for you!

Monday Motivation – Clubbing Style!

Monday Motivation – Clubbing Style!

It’s Monday! And I am MOTIVATED! 😀

This weekend, @TheWelshWookie and I have been busy. We’ve decorated the hall, and it is looking fantastic. We have also -at last – replaced our cooker. The last one blew up 😮 and we just hadn’t gotten round to getting a new one. But, now we have: and can you guess the first thing made in it?

Yup. Chocolate Cake 😀

But it will make healthy eating a little easier again. After I treat myself to a pizza this week, of course. Pizza, I have missed you!

Anyhow, I have kickstarted this week in a fun filled and energetic way – with a Clubbercising class! It was totally AWESOME!

The class is aerobic, dance style, which you can do to suit your own abilities, either high or low intensity. Everyone has glowsticks, and the music is upbeat: dance, clubbing style. I LOVED it! 🙂

And what was even better was the lights are dimmed, there are disco lights, and no one is watching what you’re doing 😉

Some of my favourite running tracks were used, which was great: Titanium and Pump up the Jam, amongst others. But the track of the evening was one I remember very fondly from clubbing in Glasgow when I was in my late teens, early twenties:

Gotta love me some N-Trance on a Monday night, reminding me of Destiny nightclub, and The Boulevard at the weekends.  Brilliant!

If you get the chance, take a Clubbercise class!

Bring on February!

How are your New Year health resolutions going? Do you make any?
I don’t make specific resolutions, but I do enjoy refocusing and re establishing routines after the festive season.
And my first workout of Jantastic is under my belt- Woo Hoo!
Saturday was my first run in a while and, boy, did I struggle- I felt like an old lady, huffing and puffing (and a little walking) my way through a short two mile run. Tonight I mixed it up a little, with some exercise bike and strength work.
Now I’m basking in post-exercise endorphins, and plotting my runs for the year. I’ve signed up for two so far: the Mull of Kintyre half marathon which, as ever, sold out within a couple of hours! It’s been voted the best run in the UK by Runner’s World many times. And I’ve also scheduled in my postponed GNR which I’m definitely planning to do in 2015.
Here’s something that suits my mood today:

This weekend, @TheWelshWookie and I spent time at Portavadie Marina, one of our favourite places. Lucky us! We treated ourselves to lunch and a couple of cocktails, and had a lovely, relaxing time. We also had a sneak peek at the leisure facility – and it’s really coming along! Roll on next summer so that I can test out the pools, the gym and the treadmill 😉

Here’s a little something for your new week ahead:

Hello, and welcome to another week. How was your weekend?
Mine was great! I’ve finished all of my Christmas shopping, and as soon as my Christmas cards are delivered, I’ll be getting those written. Then I’ll be able to enjoy the build up to Christmas with coffee and Christmas films! 🙂
This week, I’m trying out the Asics training schedule, just for a change. I’ll let you know how it goes. Still searching for the perfect plan!
I’ve been a long time fan of Oprah, and of Dr Phil, who is the origin of today’s quote. I like his no nonsense, no excuses attitude:

Nuff said. Have a good week!

Happy New Week to you all.

How’s your weekend been? Mine’s been very relaxed and chilled: we watched some of the autumn international rugby games, and went to our local Remembrance parade yesterday.Other than that, we didn’t do much of anything.

Some times, we need a weekend to relax and recharge 🙂

And, yes, that can include taking some time for yourself too 😀

Today I’ve taken a dose of my own Monday Motivation advice, and I’ve started the week as I mean to go on.

Yes, I’ve been reunited with my trainers, and I have run! 😀 Hurrah!

I ran an easy mile on the treadmill, and followed that with 5k on the exercise bike. Now I feel fabulous!

And – more importantly – pain free 😉

How was your Hallowe’en on Friday? We had a family party at my brother and sister-in-laws, and it was loads of fun! The theme was ’80s, and we had usic and snacks from the 1980s, and most costumes were 80s themed too. @TheWelshWookie and I went as Kylie and Jason (he was Kylie, I was Jason!), my brother was also dressed as Jason, so our very own Kylie had two to choose from! We also had a couple of Madonnas,Marge Simpson, a clown, Mrs Incredible, a zombie, and many more. Janice’s costume was fab: she was Freddie Mercury, from the video for I Want to Break Free, complete with vacuum! Andrew won best costume, as  he’d come as Mr Staypuft from Ghostbusters!

The boys all had fun dooking for apples, and reaching for doughnuts, which was great.

Next, it’s Bonfire Night on Wednesday: are you having fireworks?

Here’s some to keep you going, until then 😉

This weekend, I’ve been very conscious about how busy I’ve been lately. I’ve had jam-packed weekends, lots of trips and journeys, really full work days where I haven’t had time to stop.

And, I’ve been missing running, missing taking that time for me to get out, clear my head, and chill.

Even when I’ve had ‘down time’, it’s been filled with activities, planning and sorting.

So, I’m going to gift myself some time. Some time for moi.

And, hopefully, that will include pulling on my trainers, too 🙂
