Monday Motivation

Hello, I’m back!

We had such an amazing time on our trip to Toronto- we managed to squeeze in lots and lots of adventures, including the CIBC Race for the Cure at Toronto Zoo.

Rather than bore you all with the details, I’ll pop up a photo post with some of the highlights, if you’re interested. We had plenty of lovely food, craft beer and local wine. We also walked miles each day, so I didn’t let my fitness drop entirely 😉

I’ve also had a ‘big birthday’ while I was away, and I was thoroughly spoiled by everyone. I’ll leave you to work out which milestone I hit 😀

Over the past week, I’ve been getting back on track. I tweaked my knee while running in Toronto, so I’m not quite ready to get back out on the road- it’s still giving me some pain. But I’m back at Pound and Clubbercise, with PiYo later in the week. It’s good to have a routine again and some focus back on my health and fitness.

At Clubbercise tonight we had a Halloween special, and did the dance from Thriller. It was ace! So much fun!

Here’s my thoughts following my break, and I’m trying to remember this for the coming week too:

 Have an awesome week! 🙂

Today I’ve taken a dose of my own Monday Motivation advice, and I’ve started the week as I mean to go on.

Yes, I’ve been reunited with my trainers, and I have run! 😀 Hurrah!

I ran an easy mile on the treadmill, and followed that with 5k on the exercise bike. Now I feel fabulous!

And – more importantly – pain free 😉

How was your Hallowe’en on Friday? We had a family party at my brother and sister-in-laws, and it was loads of fun! The theme was ’80s, and we had usic and snacks from the 1980s, and most costumes were 80s themed too. @TheWelshWookie and I went as Kylie and Jason (he was Kylie, I was Jason!), my brother was also dressed as Jason, so our very own Kylie had two to choose from! We also had a couple of Madonnas,Marge Simpson, a clown, Mrs Incredible, a zombie, and many more. Janice’s costume was fab: she was Freddie Mercury, from the video for I Want to Break Free, complete with vacuum! Andrew won best costume, as  he’d come as Mr Staypuft from Ghostbusters!

The boys all had fun dooking for apples, and reaching for doughnuts, which was great.

Next, it’s Bonfire Night on Wednesday: are you having fireworks?

Here’s some to keep you going, until then 😉

This time last year, @TheWelshWookie and I celebrated Hallowe’en by taking part in the Zombie Night Run. It was tough, but lots of fun. It was dark, wet, eery and very, very muddy!
We weren’t able to take part in this year’s event, which is a pity. Hope we make it in 2015.

Do you have any seasonal races planned this year?

Bangers ‘n’ Beans

Bangers ‘n’ Beans

It’s that time of year: midway between Hallowe’en and Guy Fawkes Night, where the dark, cold sky seems to be filled with the scent of woodburing stoves, coal fires and fireworks.

Tarbert Youth Group had their fireworks display on Friday night, and Lochgilphead’s Lantern Parade and bonfire was last night.

Here, @TheWelshWookie and I always celebrate with a bowl of amazing Bangers ‘n’ Beans soup:

Ingredients:

4 or 6 sausages (we used mexican chilli sausages this year)

4 or 6 new potatoes- just leave the skin on- chopped

A can of haricot beans

A pint of chicken stock

A carton of passata

Smoked paprika

Dried oregano

Worcestershire sauce

As @TheWelshWookie doesn’t measure, I’m afraid I can’t be specific about quantities. Let’s say ‘to taste’ 🙂

Grill the sausages. Cool slightly and cut into chunks.

In a large pot, add the stock, passata, haricot beans and potatoes and bring to the boil for a minute or two.

Add the paprika, oregano and worcestershire sauce.

Add the sausages. Bring back to the boil.

Simmer for 30 minutes or so.

Enjoy with homemade wholemeal bread.

Delish!
