I’m Banning Banter!

I’m Banning Banter!

Mike Stuchbery

I’m banning banter in my classroom.

Alright, alright! You can stop now! Stop throwing things! Sit down!

Look, lest you accuse me of lacking a sense of humour, let me establish my credentials: I was the kid in high school who called his school newspaper SYPHILIS, just so’s he could shout ‘Have you got Syphilis?‘ in the corridors. As a teacher, I like to think I continue to carry on as I begun, with impromptu games of Binball* and almost constant verbal sparring regarding my being an Aussie.

I’m no stranger to jokes. I adore ’em. However, I loathe banter.

Great-BanterBanter is one of the things I’ve had a real time adjusting to in Britain, alongside insane rental costs and the tendency to deep-fry everything.

Banter, once a term that was used to signify ‘light-hearted joking, a gentle ribbing of a friend’, now seems to be a catch-all…

This weekend, @TheWelshWookie and I spent time at Portavadie Marina, one of our favourite places. Lucky us! We treated ourselves to lunch and a couple of cocktails, and had a lovely, relaxing time. We also had a sneak peek at the leisure facility – and it’s really coming along! Roll on next summer so that I can test out the pools, the gym and the treadmill 😉

Here’s a little something for your new week ahead:

Have a good week!

Huggin’

Huggin’

You probably know that I like to hug inanimate objects: Christmas trees, monuments, posters!
But today is a little different.
Today is Hug a Runner Day!

Have you hugged any runners in your life yet today? Go on, give ’em a squeeeeeeze!

Hello, and welcome to another week. How was your weekend?
Mine was great! I’ve finished all of my Christmas shopping, and as soon as my Christmas cards are delivered, I’ll be getting those written. Then I’ll be able to enjoy the build up to Christmas with coffee and Christmas films! 🙂
This week, I’m trying out the Asics training schedule, just for a change. I’ll let you know how it goes. Still searching for the perfect plan!
I’ve been a long time fan of Oprah, and of Dr Phil, who is the origin of today’s quote. I like his no nonsense, no excuses attitude:

Nuff said. Have a good week!

How’s your weekend been? Mine’s been very relaxed and chilled: we watched some of the autumn international rugby games, and went to our local Remembrance parade yesterday.Other than that, we didn’t do much of anything.

Some times, we need a weekend to relax and recharge 🙂

And, yes, that can include taking some time for yourself too 😀

Today I’ve taken a dose of my own Monday Motivation advice, and I’ve started the week as I mean to go on.

Yes, I’ve been reunited with my trainers, and I have run! 😀 Hurrah!

I ran an easy mile on the treadmill, and followed that with 5k on the exercise bike. Now I feel fabulous!

And – more importantly – pain free 😉

How was your Hallowe’en on Friday? We had a family party at my brother and sister-in-laws, and it was loads of fun! The theme was ’80s, and we had usic and snacks from the 1980s, and most costumes were 80s themed too. @TheWelshWookie and I went as Kylie and Jason (he was Kylie, I was Jason!), my brother was also dressed as Jason, so our very own Kylie had two to choose from! We also had a couple of Madonnas,Marge Simpson, a clown, Mrs Incredible, a zombie, and many more. Janice’s costume was fab: she was Freddie Mercury, from the video for I Want to Break Free, complete with vacuum! Andrew won best costume, as  he’d come as Mr Staypuft from Ghostbusters!

The boys all had fun dooking for apples, and reaching for doughnuts, which was great.

Next, it’s Bonfire Night on Wednesday: are you having fireworks?

Here’s some to keep you going, until then 😉
