Monday Motivation

Last week was a good ‘un. I had a solid week both in terms of fitness and eating well, and I had some fun along the way!

Here’s how it all worked out:

Monday: run. Hill repeats with some of the Jog Scotland crew- something is never do by myself. A great start to the week

Tuesday: walk. I was too late for classes😏

Wednesday: Jog Scotland Easy Run

Thursday: lunchtime hill run, followed by a fantastic PiYo Class in the evening

Friday: at home PiYo and a walk

Saturday: a walk around Glasgow’s West End

Sunday: a walk around the village

I didn’t manage to fit in a long run, and although I felt like I’d missed out at the time my legs today have definitely felt the benefit of three days without running. I went for a 10k morning run and I felt strong. I also managed my fastest 5k and 10k time in well over a year, including a sub 30 minute 5k. Yay!

We’re just over three weeks away from the Glen Scotia Marathon relay and we’ve just agreed who is running which section. It’s getting exciting!

My running mojo has been great recently, and I think today has helped to reinforce that too 👍🏻 But I know that can be a fragile thing, so here’s some motivation whether you are on a running high- or low:

Good morning! And what a glorious morning it is. The sun is shining and I’ve been for a run already- 4 gloriously sunny miles☀️

I’ve had a good week- my fitness plans have been on track and I’ve eaten well. Here’s a quick recap:

Monday: we went for a lovely walk around the harbour. After a busy weekend it was a good start to the week.

Tuesday: only one class, but we used the Pilates hoops again at Sculpt which really challenged my muscles in new ways. The DOMS were real!

Wednesday: an informal run with the Jog Scotland crew. We’re now on a summer break but still meeting informally until the next session in the autumn.

Thursday: two lots of activity for me- I had a trail run at lunchtime followed by PiYo in the evening. It was the last session of round 61 and it was tough!

Friday: I spent the day doing housework and managed to rack up around 10k steps so I did well for a rest day!

Saturday: we had the end-of-block run with Jog Scotland, a Viking 5k, since it was the Viking Festival Weekend. I started slowly and picked up pace as I went , running mile 3 at 9’40 pace- quick for me! We all were given fab mugs with Tarbert Jog Scotland on one side and a pic of Tarbert on the other. Love them!

In the afternoon we spent it in the sunshine, tidying the garden: grass cutting, strimming, jet washing and weeding. We were out there for over 5 hours, and I racked up over 20,000 steps 😊

Sunday: the weather was lovely, so we went for a walk to recover from the day before, before watching the Viking boat carry later in the day.

Loved it! I’m off to a good start this week, but we have no classes so I’ll have to rely on my own momentum to keep myself focussed this week.

Hello, everyone. I’m afraid I’m suffering from post holiday blues over here, and a tough week at work hasn’t helped with that. Ah well, we all get those kinds of weeks, don’t we?

On a positive note, I had a really good week in terms of my health and exercise targets:

Monday: we went for a walk after work which helped to blow away some cobwebs!

Tuesday: I had a ‘Tuesday Triple’: a lunchtime Run with Alison followed by Sculpt and Trigger Point Pilates in the evening. We focussed on hands and feet, and I felt great afterwards, although was shattered on Wednesday!

Wednesday: Jog Scotland, we did an easy 5k

Thursday: PiYo

Friday: another evening walk.

We had a busy weekend, Saturday was spent setting up for Fèis an Tairbeirt’s annual Ceilidh which was a fab night! Many hands help with clear up, so it wasn’t a late evening. Sunday was much quieter, and very much a day of relaxing and recharging.

Here’s a thought as we head into a new week:

Let’s focus not on what we say we will do, but on what we actually do. Go smash it!

Happy Easter! I’ve had a wonderful weekend- how about you?

I was still getting over my chest infection this week so my activity levels haven’t been back to normal yet, but I am getting there. Meanwhile my eating has been, well, far from ideal – but I’m really not worried about it. Back on track between now and Florida 😉

Monday: travelling back from our trip away, but we did get a walk in. Nothing else.

Tuesday: back at class- yes! Sculpt was great, it’s tough, challenging, but feels very good indeed. That was followed by Trigger Point Pilates, which was ace.

Wednesday: back to Jog Scotland and it was my first run in 10 days. We ran for 40 minutes, which was around 3.6 miles. Thoroughly enjoyed it, and boy did I need it!

Thursday: a walk in Lochgilphead

Friday: three hours of gardening- I’m counting it!

Saturday: a walk to and from Portavadie as well as a lovely day in the Spa there

Sunday: a trip to Gigha, so we enjoyed a fab walk around the island

All in all, I still have a way to go to get back to my previous fitness levels before my chest infection, but a bank holiday 10k run today has helped to boost my confidence with that.

How on earth did we reach the middle of February already? 2019, please slow down!

I’ve had a good week again, staying on track up to the weekend. Here’s a quick rundown of my activity for last week:

Monday: walk. I had a meeting in Glasgow and so I knew that I wasn’t going to make it to class. Instead, I was sure to get enough steps in for the day.

Tuesday: a triple activity day which made up for the day before – Alison and I had another lunchtime trail run. It was sunny and mild, and I made progress, running slightly farther up the hill than before.

In the evening I enjoyed Sculpt- I upped my resistance bands for every exercise and Jacqui upped some of the reps, so it was a real challenge. After, we had Trigger Point Pilates, working into shoulders in particular.

Wednesday: back to Jog Scotland- and we did lamp post sprints this week. 10 mins warm up jog, 10 mins sprints, 10 mins cool down. Loved it!

Thursday: it was Valentine’s Day but we still had class to go to! Jacqui ran a special PiYo Candlelight Flow class which was beautiful. And she had a rose for each of us to take home at the end, it was lovely! 🌹

Friday: It was an early start and a full on day in Edinburgh to see Les Miserables. I kept my eating on track but didn’t do much by way of exercise.

Saturday: we spent the day in Edinburgh, and while there we walked. A lot. One example – We walked through Prince St Gardens, then up the zig-zagging hill to Edinburgh Castle, then we walked the length of the Royal Mile to Holyrood Palace. And lots more besides!

Sunday: rest. Travelling home and getting organised for the week was my priority.

How has your week been? Have you kept your health and wellbeing goals on track? I’m pleased to say that I have. It’s been an all-round great week.

Monday: my week started well with a busy day at work. I had arranged for a lunchtime trail run with Alison and Morag, and I found myself running late. Instead of cancelling altogether I headed out 10 minutes after them and eventually caught them up by skipping out the loop around Kilmory Loch. My week started off with a rainbow: I also did two classes on Monday night: I’m making progress at Core Conditioning and I felt stronger in the plank moves. I know I still have a ways to go but when I think back to the first class only four weeks ago it’s made a huge difference! After that we had Veraflow, which was a nice way to finish off my busy day. Tuesday: Another double class, which was a shock to the system after the past two Tuesdays being cancelled due to the weather. Sculpt was fab- hard going at times, but I do really enjoy this. Next up was Trigger Point Pilates and my body really needed it!

Wednesday: again, after two weeks off due to the weather, Jog Scotland was back. Our improvers group started with a 10 minute warm up, followed by a 10 minute ‘weave’ run – it was a variation on a line run where we weaved in and out of each other as well as running from back to front. We then had a 10 minute cool down.

Thursday: we had PiYo which really is my favourite class. I was feeling quite tired, though, particularly during the first half of the class but I had a second wind towards the end of class.

Friday: rest. I listened to my body and skipped my planned run as I was feeling pretty tired at the end of the week. Perfect timing since Storm Erik made an appearance!

Saturday: I had a Fèis Committee meeting in the morning, then I headed out for a run in the afternoon. I am determined not to do too much, too soon and so I was aiming to do between 5 and 6 miles. Instead of running around the harbour, I headed out to the West Loch and before I could talk myself out of it I decided to run up the steep hill to Carrick cemetery. And I did it, without stopping! Hurrah! I was feeling really good, probably benefiting from the rest day…. and I ran 10k! That’s my first 10k since June last year so I’m delighted. The skies were beautiful which no doubt helped to keep me distracted!

Sunday: I reckoned I could do with some active recovery after a week of classes and especially after Saturday’s run so we went for an hour’s walk around Tarbert Harbour. Yes, we were caught in a hail shower, but I ended my week of activities the same way it began- with another beautiful rainbow!

This coming week is going to be a bit of a challenge: I have a long day in Glasgow tomorrow, a trip to Mull on Thursday and a weekend away to Edinburgh at the end of the week. I’ll be fitting it what activity I can, when I can.

How on earth did we get to the end of January? As usual, this month has felt endless- but at the same time I can’t believe I’m already a month into my challenge to get back on track. I’ve had another fantastic week, both my fitness and my eating has been on track so I’m pleased. There’s been no secret to this- it has been down to preparation and making sure I stick to the plan. So far, so good! Here’s how my week turned out:

Monday: I did two classes. First up was Core Conditioning. It’s tough, it I had definitely made progress compared to the previous week’s class. And the DOMS I had in Tuesday and Wednesday were a real testament to that. We then had Veraflow which was great for stretching and for balance, and ends with a much welcomed mindfulness session.

Tuesday: we had snow, and the roads were a bit tricky so classes weren’t on. However at lunchtime I headed out with Alison for a snowy run, to christen my new trail shoes. It was beautiful!

Wednesday: the previous days snow had frozen so JogScotland was cancelled, but I wanted to give my new trail shoes a go on ice, so I met up with Alison and Lesley for a short run. We did lamppost sprints, which I’d never do in my own.

Thursday: the weather had improved and Class was back on so it was back to PiYo, which I had missed the previous week. It was one of those nights when everything clicked and it was great!

Friday: I had a rest day after four solid days of activity.

Saturday: the weather was wild with winds and driving, icy rain but I was determined to get out and test my new trail shoes on a muddy trail. I reckon that it’s very likely the weather won’t cooperate on the day of the Kintyre Way Relay so I might as well train and get ready for that. I did just short of 3.5 miles doing the short Castle loop three times. I focused on building confidence running downhill in the slippy mud and I think I did that. I did walk at times, and stopped to take plenty of pictures – I loved it. I had planned to do 4 miles but I’m happy enough with how my run went.

Sunday: a rest day. I’m heading into another busy week and in the past my enthusiasm has overruled my sense and I’ve pushed too hard, too soon resulting in injury. I’m going to take my time to build up slowly in the coming weeks, balancing distance with hills and cross training to hopefully achieve the best results.

I’ve also done more mindfulness this week, I’m sure that’s not done any harm whatsoever!

It’s Monday, and for us it’s a bank holiday. Yay! I love an extra Monday off, with nothing much planned 🙂

How was your week? Mine was very mixed: a week where the best laid plans went awry. I started off last Monday with a brilliant Circuits class. I’m finding that my fitness is recovering and every week I am making progress. It’s such a great way to start off the week, revving up with both strength and cardio. I tried out my new leggings from OgiYogi and they were amazing!

I knew I wouldn’t make it to Sculpt or TPP on Tuesday as I was on my way to stay at my parents for early meetings in Glasgow on Wednesday. I did manage a short walk, though. The plan for Wednesday to Friday was to be in London for work, so I planned lots of walking a s packed my resistance bands, but Storm Ali put paid to my plans, and London wasn’t meant to be this time. I did walk around 15k steps on Wednesday and one positive was I made it back for PiYo on Thursday. This new round is ace, and as we have lots of beginners it’s been a chance to really focus on technique and getting each move right.

I had a day off on Friday, and so I decided to head out for a 5k run. It was amazing! The first self motivated run in a while, and I loved it.

We had visitors all weekend, but on Sunday we did go out for a walk in the rain, and this morning, @TheWelshWookie and I got another 5k in. It’s the first 5k that he has done in a long, long time: as he said, it’s wasn’t fast and it wasn’t pretty- but he smashed it!

I may well have rediscovered my running mojo, just in time for the autumn! Have a wonderful week ☺️
