Monday Motivation

Welcome to another week! How are you doing? Have you started your week off with a fitness fix?

I’m just back from Clubbercise, where I tripped over one of the disco lights and I broke one of my glowsticks. Not at the same time, though. Oopsy!

We’ve had visitors this weekend- the Donnellys were through visiting, so we had a weekend of football, walks, fun and games. And wine. Of course. It was a lot of fun. I didn’t squeeze a run in this weekend, but we made up for it in walks, I think.

Here’s a positive thought for the forthcoming week:

Be awesome, I love this!

Monday Motivation

Hello. Have you had a good week? Mine was good. I’m definitely back into my fitness and overall health improvement groove.

I’ve now had four PiYo classes this year, and I must say that this class is just what I’ve needed. It really fills a huge hole in my routine, giving me the opportunity to really stretch and build strength which can only help my running in the long term.

I’ve tried yoga in the past, but I’ve never found that it works for me- I’ve lacked the discipline and motivation to push myself through, mostly due to my lack of flexibility. With PiYo, the combination of the routines, it’s faster pace and its hiit-style suits me much better. I’m definitely a novice, and that’s both tough and strangely liberating. While I can master some of the more aerobic moves like burpees, I really struggle with some of the balance and tricep/press up moves. I’m finding this a challenge, both mentally and physically, but I’m ok with that. The DOMS are a kind-of reward for my hard work, although they make for a difficult Pound class the following day!

The mental challenge of finding myself a beginner is something I’m working on- it’s good to admit I don’t know what I’m doing some of the time!

Jacqui, our instructor, offers great modifications for the moves, and is great at making sure we balance pushing ourselves with being safe.

I’m feeling the benefits of PiYo, but I know that I need to work on it one week at a time, building on my learning each week.

Don’t be afraid- sometimes it’s exactly where we need to be!

Let me start tonight by checking you’re all safe, tucked up at home and out of these storms: we’ve just said goodbye to Storm Gertrude and we’re now facing Storm Henry who is just beginning to whip up now.

I’ve had a great week, which had been punctuated by DOMS after each class and run, resulting in some difficulty in getting up and down stairs at work! It’s been fun 😉 I do like it, though, in a weird way- I know I’ve worked hard and my fitness is returning as my muscles repair.

Next on my agenda is to get my kitchen habits back on track. Not that we ate badly last week, we had a week of solid, healthy food, but I’m happy to get back to refuelling properly .

Have a wonderful week!

Well, the runner in me has returned! Yes!

It’s been hiding away, recovering from a niggly knee and enjoying classes during November and December- you might remember that I said I wasn’t going to beat myself up about it. I didn’t, and on Saturday I enjoyed my first short run in some time. It was only around the harbour, but it felt good to be back out there, stretching my legs. I’ll admit to feeling some DOMS yesterday, but that’s all good. 😉

This week, I’m back at all three classes: Clubbercise this evening, PiYo on Wednesday and Pound on Thursday. I’ll also be back to a couple more sort runs too, I reckon.

It feels good to be back on it! 😀

Hello, everyone. How are you on this Blue Monday? It may traditionally be the day when most people feel down, but not here! I’m off to get some feel good endorphins at Clubbercise. Last week was great- it felt fantastic to be back at most of my classes and working hard at it again.

It was fab to get back to stretching at PiYo last Wednesday, and I’m looking forward to improving my fitness and complementing my running by building strength and flexibility- two definite gaps for me.

I’ve also cleaned up my eating a little; but I have a long way to go to get back to where I was earlier last year. I’ll get there. I’m not going to beat myself up about it 🙂

This reflects my current mindset:

 Agreed? Good!
