Superbowl Sunday

Superbowl Sunday

Hi everyone! Who’s excited about tonight’s football?

This pic made me smile a lot!

I always have mixed feelings: it always seems a long time until the start of next season!
For us in the UK, it’s on into the wee small hours of the morning: I usually last until the half time entertainment, then fall asleep 😉
I saw this on Fitfluential’s facebook page, and thought I’d share:

Will you be participating in fitfluential’s challenge or will you be enjoying beer and snacks? Who are you supporting?

Being Thankful.

Being Thankful.

I think I may have been born on the wrong continent. I LOVE Thanksgiving; it is so powerful!

While many of you are celebrating, holidaying and having family time, I’ll be working: but I’ll be thankful for that. I’ll be thinking about all of my own blessings, and those of my family today.

I’ll then be heading home to share in your traditions: good food, good company and football.

So, whatever you are doing, and whomever you are spending it with: enjoy. My thankful blessings are with you all!

Are Recovery Runs Always Weird?

Are Recovery Runs Always Weird?

@TheWelshWookie and I had a day off from running yesterday.

Today, we headed out for a slow, 5K recovery run. At least. that was the plan. My legs and my brain had something else planned!

Before I was even aware of it, we had run about 3/4 of a mile, and our pace was just over 9 minute per mile! I had to consciously try to slow down, but it still resulted in a first mile pace of 9.39, which is pretty speedy for me!

Here’s the splits- faster than I had planned:

For the rest of the run, I felt like we were on an elastic band- bounding forward at speed, then trying to hold back and run slowly. It was tough, in a weird way!

It’s funny, how after a race it’s difficult to just get back into recovery mode. We need to keep it light this week, so that we have enough energy in the running tank for Saturday’s CowalFest trail race!

…BREAKING NEWS….

The NFL are going to play three home games in the UK during 2014! And which will be the home teams? Well, would you believe this:

Jacksonville Jaguars- my team

Oakland Raiders- @TheWelshWookie’s team

Atlanta Falcons – my brother-in-law’s team

I wonder if I can swing three trips to London next year 😉

Today’s Stats:

Run: 5K recovery run

Weather: cloudy and cold. It’s time for long sleeves and tights, I think

Trainers: LunarGlides

Today’s life lesson: just when you think your day is going well, the other boot falls. Sometimes quite heavily…

How do you find recovery runs?

Beer? Check. Popcorn? Check. Hot dogs? Check. Cheat Sheet? Check. Draft Strategy? Well, kinda-check. Tonight is draft night!

fantasy-fear

I’m not as well prepared as I’d like to be; I’m drafting using a new laptop, and on a website I’ve never used. But I have some ideas about how I’m hoping to navigate this evening, which is something!

No running talk from me tonight; it’s all about running backs for now!

I’m looking forward to a new season, which is bringing with it some significant changes, too:

See you on the other side, for a team check! 😀

Fantasy Football Friday

Fantasy Football Friday

Well, I have good news for you. If you’re reading this, it means that you’ve made it to the end of another working week. Hooray!

its-friday-you-say

Tonight, I’m supposed to be doing a 4 mile run. But the rain is lashing down. The wind is howling. I have stuff to do, so I’m chickening out rearranging my training schedule slightly. Besides, I have wine that needs to be consumed 😉

Actually, I have housework to do. And packing.  THEN it will be wine o’clock.

I can’t believe that football season is almost upon us already, and it’s fantasy draft time this weekend!

time-flies

I’ve been in a fantasy league for 9 years. This year, @TheWelshWookie and I are in a different league, so my 10th season will also feel like a new start, in many ways. We’ve also moved from ESPN to NFL. So, as part of these changes, I’ve been reviewing my past draft strategies, and working out what has, and hasn’t gone so well in the past. Most years, I’ve gone for some form of handcuff deal, and it’s probably worked out well 75% of the time. As we have a new league, we’re starting with no keepers, which seems odd. I’ve had Wes Welker as a keeper since forever, so it’ll be weird not starting with him automatically on my team!

Here’s some of my prep scribbles so far….. no peeking too closely, now!

Bring on Sunday, I can’t wait!

On running related matters, my bib and medal hanger arrived…… woo hoo!

I’m just deciding where the best place is for it to go.

And my Nike+ FuelBand has conked out on me, so I’m a little disappointed about that. I’m hoping the Nike Store will exchange it this weekend.

Today’s Life Lesson: sometimes good folks really do think alike 😉

Are you a football fan? Do you play fantasy football?
