Weekly Workouts

Weekly Workouts

After a really good few weeks, the past week has been curtailed somewhat by other priorities, which has affected the number of classes I’ve been able to do (zero) and the length and time of my runs. We all get weeks like these, and I’m certainly not going to beat myself up over it – it’s just one of those things! Here is what I did fit in:

Monday –

After my eight miles on the Sunday I was keeping my Monday run short, so I managed a wee 3 miler around the harbour. I was distracted, thinking ahead to my afternoon workload, and forgot to take a photo! Oh well, you’ll all know what the harbour looks like!

Distance: 3m

Time: 31m 0s

Elevation: 69ft

Pace: 10.19/m

Wednesday:

After a particularly busy day taking part in two really excellent seminars, I knew a run would be a good idea to expend the adrenaline and decompress my thoughts. It was absolutely the right thing to do and I felt so much better for doing it. I even kept my lipstick on!

Distance: 4m

Time: 45m 29s

Elevation: 52ft

Pace: 11.21/m

Thursday:

After work, we went for a walk to the West Loch and we’re surprised to see the Gigha ferry sitting there! It was a strange site!

Distance: 3.37m

Friday:

I was able to squeeze in a short lunchtime run and so I headed back to the West Loch to see if the ferry was still there, but it was already away. Ah well!

Distance: 2.67m

Time: 30m 3s

Elevation: 131ft

Pace: 11.13/m

Sunday:

It was a really cold and wet day, and I really didn’t feel like lacing up. Ordinarily, running in the rain doesn’t bother me, but it was windy and cold, and- well- I just wanted to stay home!

I did lace up, and decided not to put myself under pressure. I opted to just do 30 minutes, just to get it done, so that’s what happened. It was so, so wet!

Distance: 2.56m

Time: 31m 16s

Elevation: 453ft

Pace: 12.12/m

We’ll see if the coming week brings more opportunities to get a sweat on! 🤣🤷🏼‍♀️

The Temptations on Pinterest

The Temptations on Pinterest

Oh, how I love you, Pinterest. I can easily while way hours, scrolling through workouts, fashion, motivation, home interiors and books.

But, how often do I find myself scrolling through tasty treats? All. The. Time.

Sometimes, it’s healthy stuff that I pin and save for later. I’ve tried out lots: some are more successful than others. Disasters include cinnamon quinoa breakfast bars (far too dense) and black bean brownies (dry, dry, dry).

Other times, I can’t resist the naughty stuff. And that’s where I’ve been drawn to recently.

And I’ve found a recipe that not only works, but gives me a warm, tasty, chocolate hit whenever I want it, as all of the ingredients are store cupboard staples. And it’s pretty naughty.

It’s a chocolate mug cake. Dreeeeaaamy! Have you ever tried it?

It takes about twenty seconds to throw together:

Grab a mug. Add in:

1/4 cup of plain flour

1/4 cup of sugar

a pinch of salt

2 tablespoons of cocoa (I use Green & Blacks)

Give the dry ingredients a quick mix together.

Then add in:

2 tablespoons of olive oil

3 tablespoons of water

Mix it all up. If it’s a little dry, add a little more water.

choc pic 2

Pop it in the microwave for 1 minute, 40 seconds.

Oh, my. It comes out with just that slight gooiness that is heaven!

Delish!

Non-Foodie Friday

Non-Foodie Friday

Welcome to the weekend once again! What do you have planned?

I have an eight mile run tomorrow morning, followed by a weekend of watching more Six Nations rugby action 😉

Tonight, I was going to post a Foodie Friday blog. But, when I checked, I didn’t have enough pics to share! 😮

So, here’s a picture to make you smile instead:

Don’t forget to email Kyla tomorrow with the number of kilometres you have run this week. I can’t wait to see how far we’ve run during the first week!

A Lull

A Lull

The title of today’s post is a little deceptive. I feel like I’ve been completely run off my feet recently: mostly at work, but also in my down time, what with having a wedding to plan!

But that means that my running has taken a back seat this week, and I’m missing it! To be honest, as my training for the Madrid RnR half doesn’t begin properly until early February, this busyness has come at a very convenient time 😉

I’m excited to share some of the wedding details with you (don’t worry, I’ll warn anyone not interested, so that they can avoid the posts) but it’ll have to wait a few more days. I’m planning on getting the invites out early next week so, all will be revealed after then!

In the mean time, I’m going to head upstairs to the treadmill to say ‘hi!’ to it with a short run. No doubt that after a few minutes I’ll wonder why the heck I was missing it! 😮

How’s your week going? Are you having a busy or a quiet one? Have you missed any workouts?

Happy Friday everyone!

TGIF

It’s Friday the Thirteenth: anyone superstitious out there? If you are, pretend you’re Spanish: they’re fine with Friday the Thirteenth, but not Tuesday the Thirteenth 😮

What have you been up to today? I’ve kicked off a week’s holiday! Woop!

And what better way to spend the day than shopping, eating and drinking with my mum?

We had a great mooch around Glasgow, picking up the final pieces we needed for Christmas. We also had a make up session at Clinique, which was fun! The selfie above is BEFORE the makeover, in case you were wondering!

In keeping with yesterday’s ‘Season’s Eatings’ post, the festive feasting continues. We had tapas for lunch, at Barca in Princes Square: it was delish!

We then had a lil’ refreshment at the Concert Hall before heading home.

I’ve had a lovely day!

Did you all have a good Friday?

Nathan’s Christening

Nathan’s Christening

Have you had a busy weekend, or a quiet one?

Mine has been busy. We had my nephew Nathan’s Christening yesterday, and we had a fantastic day.

Nathan with his mum and dad, and his god parents!

After the church service, we had a family meal in Paperino’s, Byres Road, which was great. Pizza and pasta. Yum!

We then had a brilliant family-party night, with lots of food, fun, dancing, and a few drinks 😉

Nathan liked his cake:

We’re now home: @TheWelshWookie is finally feeling a little more human!

Back to the running, rowing and strength work tomorrow 😉

Happy Friday, everyone!

Do you have any plans for the weekend? I have my nephew’s Christening, so I’ll be heading through to Glasgow again tonight.

How’s the Christmas shopping going?  All done yet? 😮

Recently, I’ve been eating like I’m still preparing for races:

This is a slight problem because, well, I don’t have any races, and I’ve eased off on my training. Hmmmm.

I’ve also been really enjoying Christmas coffees:

And, I’ve been enjoying the odd gin. My friend bought ne a bottle of Caorunn for my birthday, and it’s my favourite. If you only ever drink gin with tonic, you should try a Caorunn with elderflower cordial and ginger syrup. A-ma-zing.

Last weekend, we popped into the new Waitrose store in Helensburgh, and I was very tempted impressed with their selection:

It was difficult to walk away without adding any of these to my basket!

Do you plan to treat yourself to anything this weekend?

Tuesday’s To-Do List

Tuesday’s To-Do List

Tonight, I’m not running. I’m having a rest day.

Instead, I have several other things on the go:

1. I have a new copy of Women’s Running to enjoy!

photo (2)

2. I have some Christmas cross stitch projects that I’ve only just started: I’m running late with these 😮

3. I have Steven King’s Doctor Sleep to finish reading.

4. I have Spanish revision to do.

I took a beginner’s Spanish class in the spring, and I recently received notification that they are running a ‘post-beginners’ class. Naturally, I signed up! It is conducted by video conference, so I travel to Argyll College in Lochgilphead where I am linked in with students from Campbeltown, Oban, Dunoon and Rothesay. It’s an interesting way to learn! So, this evening I’m dusting off my notes from the beginner’s course, and practicing my basic pronunciation.

Any help or tips on learning the lingo are appreciated! 😉

Addicted!

Addicted!

No, not to running, I’m afraid.

I’m confessing my addiction to Breaking Bad! 😉

funny_breaking_bad_memes

My boring life is on hold as I watch episode after episode, and I now have only three episodes left to watch 😮

Not bad, since I only started watching a couple of weeks ago! I’ve been viewing all campervans with suspicion ever since 😉

So, no running. But to be honest my legs are enjoying the break after three races in 14 days. My next race is 16 days away.

But I’ve not caught up on any other TV shows: Strictly Come Dancing, or Under the Dome, or Biggest Loser, or Downton Abbey, or even Pointless!

Tonight, I’ll get my life back, just in time for a busy weekend 😉

What Would You Do?

What Would You Do?

It’s a wild, wet and windy Wednesday. So what do you do?

Do you:

1. Man up, and go for a run: get blown around the harbour, soaked to the bone, but feel smug and thaw out when you get home.

1377551_702892506405940_454668645_n

2. Do some indoor exercise: strength training. Yoga. Fitness DVD.

3. Do those stretches you know are good for you, but you neglect. Foam roll.

Celebs_0001_r10-rgb_30_09_13_17_58

4. Sit on the sofa and watch TV, listening to the rain battering on the window.

Can you guess which I did tonight?
