Almost St. Andrew’s

Almost St. Andrew’s

On our drive home today, I was thinking about the coming week: with Thanksgiving, followed by St. Andrew’s day on Saturday. As @TheWelshWookie and I will be in Coventry this weekend, I thought we’d better have haggis at some point this week, since we won’t have it on Saturday.
And so, we stopped off at the George Hotel in Inveraray for dinner. And what did I have? Oh, there was only one thing on my mind: haggis, neeps ‘n’ tatties, with a green peppercorn sauce. Yummy. Very winter-warming!

In keeping with foods with an ‘n’ in the name, @TheWelshWookie has fish ‘n’ chips:

We’re now home. And I’m road testing my new slipper socks…

I hope you’re having a comfy, cozy Sunday. Did you have a busy weekend or a quiet one?

Home from the Hen

Home from the Hen

I’m home!

We’ve had a brilliant weekend: as predicted, we had lots of fun, food, drinks and laughs. We had a blast!

Saturday night was party night, and it was fantastic! I’m only sharing one pic, though…

What happens on the hen, says on the hen 😉

Yesterday was a day for recovering relaxing, including a visit to the spa, with its range of various saunas, steam rooms, jacuzzi, outdoor pool and other pampering areas. Bliss.

Of course, that was quickly followed by more food, drink, music and laughs!

Today, we’ve traveled home, and I think I could sleep for a week; running will have to keep for tomorrow.

Six days until the Great Scottish Run, now, roll on another busy weekend!

My Favourite Cafe

My Favourite Cafe

Well, hello there, Monday, you’ve come around too fast!

Today, I received a reality check, after spotting the following goodies in our local Co Op:

IMG_2474

Erm, hello, the Hallowe’en goodies haven’t even hit the shelves yet, and you’re selling Christmas goodies?!

Anyhoo, how has your day been?

Tonight, we’ve headed to my favourite cafe for dinner. I’m pretty sure that I’ve mentioned it before. It’s called Cafe Ca’Dora, and it’s in Tarbert, conveniently located easily within walking distance. And we love it!

What is really tempting is that virtually every run goes past it. It’s difficult not to just pop in!

We visit it regularly- too regularly, and every time we have visitors, we’re guaranteed to be in there a few times: for breakfast, or lunch, or coffee, or dinner. Or any combination of those!

@TheWelshWookie loves the burgers.

I love the nachos, wraps, pasta and fajitas.

They also make their own ice cream. It is delicious!

All of this talk of food is making me hungry again! 🙂

And I’m having a rest day; so no running to burn any extra calories off! 😮

Tasty Tuesday

Tasty Tuesday

It’s been a while since I shared some of my good and bad foodie choices with you. So, I thought I’d do a bit of a tasty photodump today, so you can see what kind of stuff has been fuelling my runs recently.

I must be honest- there’s probably much more ‘naughty’ in there than there should be!

There’s the good:

The bad:

And the down right ugly (but tasty!):

But I’m back on track this week, I promise!

I was recently nominated by the wonderful runningtoherdreams  for the Shine On award 😀

I really want to post about this separately- so it’s coming soon, as I want to do it justice. Also my Cumberland Pie is now ready 😉 Don’t judge me- it’s almost winter!!

In Dublin’s Fair City

In Dublin’s Fair City

Today, @TheWelshWookie and I have arrived in Dublin!

We were in Glasgow Airport for 8.30am, and waited an hour, having coffee, until we could drop off our suitcase. Our flight was at 11.30, and we flew to Dublin with Air Lingus. Look away now if small planes make you feel queasy!

After a pretty bumpy flight, we touched down in Dublin, and waited aaaaages for our bag. Yawn. But, when we headed for the car hire, a pleasant surprise awaited us- a pretty smart hire car!

We drove straight to the hotel, had a very quick change, then caught the Luas, or tram, into the DT Dublin Hotel, which was the venue for the Expo. The expo was about a half hour walk, which was a good opportunity for us to really get our bearings in the city.

The Expo was fun!

i picked up my bib, goody bag (which contained mostly leaflets and money off coupons, a packet of crisps and a packet of blister plasters, which will be very handy!) and T shirt.

I then collected my World Rocker medal, even though I haven’t run the second half yet! It’s massive, and, of course, I had to wear it all day 😉

I bought some new earphones, to wear whilst running:

The yurbuds are super comfortable, and designed not to fall out when running. We’ll see!

We then headed back into the city centre, to find something to eat. We had a lovely walk:

Until the heavens opened, and we got a thorough soaking! Fortunately, we flagged down a taxi, who took us to the Hard Rock Cafe, which is where we ate the night before the Edinburgh RnR Half, too!

We’re now back at the hotel, relaxing, and looking forward to the rest of the weekend.

Today’s Life Lesson: Remember to take important paperwork with you- going back for it is a pain!

What have you been up to on this Saturday?

Any Excuse to Carb Load

Any Excuse to Carb Load

Tonight @TheWelshWookie and I have begun the first part of our journey to Dublin for the Rock ‘n’ Roll half marathon on Monday 🙂
We’re safely ensconced at the parentals, in Dumbarton, before our flight to Dublin in the morning.
It feel like we’ve started our holiday already, and so we’ve taken the opportunity to begin the carb loading already:

On our drive down, we saw two things you don’t see every day. First, a full rainbow across Loch Fyne, just as we drove into Inveraray:

And second was a vintage fire engine on a truck- sorry it’s only half a pic 😦

Today’s Life Lesson: never settle for poor service- take your custom elsewhere!
Have you spotted anything unusual whilst driving recently?

Running is like Salmon.

Running is like Salmon.

‘Running is like Salmon.’ So my sister said when she managed to get her breath back at the finish of the inaugural The Color Run UK event in London on Sunday. ‘I really, really want to love it, and I keep on trying it, but I just don’t like it that much!’

Huh! Don’t hold back on your views, there! 😉

I arrived home in the ‘wee small hours’ of this morning, and I was then up early to get ready for work, caught up at work today, and planned to go for a run tonight. I did run tonight- but it was only a wee shortie!

Today’s stats:

Run: 1 mile. I had lead-legs the whole way!

Time: 9:48

Trainers: LunarGlides

Weather: Warm, muggy and cloudy

My running track of the day: God is a DJ- Faithless

The Color Run UK event was fantastic. It was roasting hot, but fortunately our hotel was very close to the start line so we didn’t have to travel too far before the run, or stand around before the race for too long. I’ll post a full race report later this week- but the headline is, it’s brilliant! As a sneak preview, I thought you might like to see a ‘before’ and ‘after’ pic:

Can you tell which is which??

I’ve had a fantastic couple of days with my sis in London. We did plenty of this:

IMG_1739 IMG_1740

And we did plenty of this:

IMG_1738 IMG_1737

We also did loads of sight seeing:

IMG_1712 IMG_1715

And yesterday, to stretch our legs and make the most of the weather, we hired a couple of Boris’ Bikes, and cycled around Hyde Park:

IMG_1721 IMG_1725

We even squeezed in some shopping in Harvey Nichols and Harrods- including visiting their Christmas shop, of course! 😀

IMG_1718

I’m now working my way through the humungous small mountain of laundry that is covered in powdered paint!

Today’s life lesson: Trying to run after 3.5 hours sleep is not such a good plan 😮

Have you travelled to a run somewhere recently?
