Tasty Tuesday

Tasty Tuesday

It’s been a while since I shared some of my good and bad foodie choices with you. So, I thought I’d do a bit of a tasty photodump today, so you can see what kind of stuff has been fuelling my runs recently.

I must be honest- there’s probably much more ‘naughty’ in there than there should be!

There’s the good:

IMG_2443 IMG_2159 IMG_2255

The bad:

IMG_2237 IMG_2387 IMG_2270 IMG_2453

And the down right ugly (but tasty!):

IMG_2143IMG_2133

But I’m back on track this week, I promise!

I was recently nominated by the wonderful runningtoherdreams  for the Shine On award 😀

I really want to post about this separately- so it’s coming soon, as I want to do it justice. Also my Cumberland Pie is now ready 😉 Don’t judge me- it’s almost winter!!

Beer? Check. Popcorn? Check. Hot dogs? Check. Cheat Sheet? Check. Draft Strategy? Well, kinda-check. Tonight is draft night!

fantasy-fear

I’m not as well prepared as I’d like to be; I’m drafting using a new laptop, and on a website I’ve never used. But I have some ideas about how I’m hoping to navigate this evening, which is something!

No running talk from me tonight; it’s all about running backs for now!

I’m looking forward to a new season, which is bringing with it some significant changes, too:

See you on the other side, for a team check! 😀

Fantasy Football Friday

Fantasy Football Friday

Well, I have good news for you. If you’re reading this, it means that you’ve made it to the end of another working week. Hooray!

its-friday-you-say

Tonight, I’m supposed to be doing a 4 mile run. But the rain is lashing down. The wind is howling. I have stuff to do, so I’m chickening out rearranging my training schedule slightly. Besides, I have wine that needs to be consumed 😉

1001337_10151769329915348_1862167325_n

Actually, I have housework to do. And packing.  THEN it will be wine o’clock.

I can’t believe that football season is almost upon us already, and it’s fantasy draft time this weekend!

time-flies

I’ve been in a fantasy league for 9 years. This year, @TheWelshWookie and I are in a different league, so my 10th season will also feel like a new start, in many ways. We’ve also moved from ESPN to NFL. So, as part of these changes, I’ve been reviewing my past draft strategies, and working out what has, and hasn’t gone so well in the past. Most years, I’ve gone for some form of handcuff deal, and it’s probably worked out well 75% of the time. As we have a new league, we’re starting with no keepers, which seems odd. I’ve had Wes Welker as a keeper since forever, so it’ll be weird not starting with him automatically on my team!

Here’s some of my prep scribbles so far….. no peeking too closely, now!

IMG_2440

Bring on Sunday, I can’t wait!

On running related matters, my bib and medal hanger arrived…… woo hoo!

IMG_2441

I’m just deciding where the best place is for it to go.

And my Nike+ FuelBand has conked out on me, so I’m a little disappointed about that. I’m hoping the Nike Store will exchange it this weekend.

Today’s Life Lesson: sometimes good folks really do think alike 😉

Are you a football fan? Do you play fantasy football?

Rockin’ and Rollin’ into 2014

Rockin’ and Rollin’ into 2014

Evening, all!

Are you fed up with me titling my blogs with words ending in -in’ this week? I promise this will be the last. Ok, at least I think it will, so I’d better retract that promise, just in case!

After signing up for the Zombie Night Run UK event this morning, as a Zombie, I’ve been excited all day, thinking about it. Now that I know where it is (it’s still a secret, except for those who have entered early 😉 ) and I’ve decided to be a chaser rather than be chased, I’m looking forward to it! It also comes at the end of a week’s holiday for me, so it’ll be something to look forward to.

And when I arrived home from work tonight, I found that another amazing run has been announced.

Drum roll please………………………………………………..

2014 will be the inaugural Rock and Roll Liverpool Marathon and Half! Woop! Woop!

@TheWelshWookie and I have already been considering dreaming about the possibility of doing the RnR Madrid run next year. I’ll more than likely do Edinburgh, and I’d love to go back to Dublin, too!

Does this mean a possible 3 or 4 RnR events might be on the cards for us?

Ooooh, decisions, decisions! Whatever I decide, I’ll be looking to add another of these to my collection:

Today’s stats

Run: ANOTHER run-less day…. I need to get that sorted soon! Stretching (and eating) instead 😉

Favourite Stretching Track today: an old Coldplay fave

Today’s life lesson: think before you speak. That’s all.

Have you planned any runs for 2014 yet?

A Dublin Photodump

A Dublin Photodump

Today, I’ll not be running. I’m going to take a day off, just to keep my legs fresh for Saturday. I’m really looking forward to the Perth Kilt Run, as I’m running with @TheWelshWookie, my bro, sis-in-law and nephew 😀

Today’s Stats

Run: no, stretching is my limit today. I’ll do NTC, probably Kara Goucher.

Surprise tune I heard at random this morning: FLC, I hadn’t heard this for aaages!

In order to free up some memory on my iPhone, I thought I’d clear out a load of stuff upload some of my pics from Dublin.

We managed to squish in quite a lot of sightseeing. On Sunday, we did loads of shopping:

photo (21)photo (5)photo (17)

We also did tour of the Aviva Stadium, aka Landsdowne Road. As a huuuuge rugby fan, @TheWelshWookie was really pleased about this!

photo (4)

After the race on Monday, we visited the Guiness Storehouse, which was great fun. Here’s the view from the Gravity Bar:

photo (13) photo (8)

And then headed to the Temple Bar area of the city:

photo (11)

On Tuesday, before we flew home, we visited Trinity College.

tphoto (1)

We had a brilliant walking tour around campus, then we saw the Book of Kells, which is beautiful. It was written by monks on the Isle of Iona, in Argyll, don’t you know? 🙂 The visit also includes entry to the old library which blew me away, it was so impressive. It looked like something from a film set!

photo (12)

And I couldn’t finish my Dublin adventure without sharing these famous watercourses:

Today’s life lesson: don’t spill baked beans down a silk dress. It’s a nightmare to get out!

What random pics have you taken recently?

Home- Between Runs!

Home- Between Runs!

I’m ho-ome!

@TheWelshWookie and I spent the morning in  Dublin.  We visited Trinity College, where we were thoroughly entertained by  tour guide named David as we did the walking tour. We then queued, and visited the Book of Kells, and the Long Room of the old library. Both were really impressive!

photo (1)

We then flew back to Glasgow, and were thoroughly delighted to find that my mum had made us dinner before we headed home. Thanks mum!

So, I now find myself between races- recovering from the Dublin RnR, and looking forward to  The Perth Kilt Run on Saturday. It’s a busy week for running!

But, boy, it’s good to be home:

Today’s life lesson: people seem to leave their brains at home as soon as they get to an airport, so be prepared!

What do you look forward to most after a trip away?

Being a Domestic Goddess…

Being a Domestic Goddess…

dom-god-2

Today, I haven’t done any exercise at all. None. Nada. Zip.

But, I have done housework: I like to have a sparking clean house when I go away, as it’s lovely to come home to a clean house. Sad, huh?

The good news, I suppose, is that housework does still count as exercise: it burns loads of calories! Hurrah! 😀

I found this on Pinterest that tells me how many calories are burned, so of course, it MUST be true!

Calories-household

So, other than spending the evening scrubbing the toilet (oh, joy), I haven’t done anything.

Oh, wait, I have done one thing……

One more working day to go, before heading off for the Rock ‘n’ Roll Half Marathon in Dublin! Yay!

Today’s Life Lesson: wearing fabric shoes on a wet day results in damp feet all morning.

What’s your least favourite domestic chore?

Getting Ready!

Getting Ready!

I have news! I received this email today:

IMG_1880

I’m surprised that I’ll have the medal before I do my second half marathon, but, so what?! 😀

My taper and preparations are continuing for next Monday’s half marathon in Dublin. It has only just occurred to me that I can now say I have TWO proper runs next week: the half on Monday, and the Perth Kilt Run on Saturday! Woo Hoo! Tonight, it’s all about the packing and organising for our trip to Dublin:

1011977_571032616272944_2009706115_n

Today’s stats:

Run: No, only stretching for me today 😉

Time: 15 mins NTC Shawn Johnson Stretch Guide. I think I’ll do 20 minutes of yoga. Or maybe I’ll sit in the hot tub instead….

Best stretching track today: Daughtry for me today

After my post the other day about Kara Goucher’s stretches, I thought I’d show you some screen shots from Shawn Johnson’s stretch guide too. Something I didn’t mention was that the athlete talks you through each stretch, and how to do it. It’s also accompanied by a video clip that actually demonstrates how to do each stretch safely and properly. Neat, huh?

Unlike the Kara Goucher stretches, this is an actual 15 minute long routine, with no repeating of exercises, so it’s great for mixing things up a little.

IMG_1872

It begins with some basic stretching, like circling your head, arms, waist, ankles, etc.

It then moves onto a combined tricep, side and arm stretch which feels pretty good!

IMG_1873

The second main stretch is a pike/squat stretch which I really like. It feels like I’m really working the muscles:

IMG_1874

The next stretch is a leg combo of four stretches. Again, this is a really good one for running, I think. It stretches out the hamstrings, hip, inner thigh and quads:

IMG_1875

Next, it’s a pretzel stretch, which is great for the legs and lower back.

IMG_1876

The  final two stretches are kind of yoga-ish: a dog stretch and a cat stretch. I can’t do a proper cat stretch- I’m too stiff for it!

IMG_1877 IMG_1878

I must admit, I do feel much more limber after doing this routine. Sometimes I then do some foam rolling, too, for good measure!

IMG_1879

Today’s Life Lesson: is it only me who phones someone I need to talk to urgently, and they are out of the office; then on lunch; then finished for the day?

Do you have any pre-travel packing tips you’d like to share?

And Stretch…

And Stretch…

In line with my taper for next Monday’s half marathon, this week will involve lots of stretching. Or at least, it should- so I’m starting off right:

578372_570501002992772_380120004_n

Today’s stats:

Run: Nope, as I said, stretching was the order of the day for me

Time: 15 mins NTC Kara Goucher Pro Running Stretches. I might do the Shawn Johnson stretching later, too, for good measure 😉

Nice, surprising stretching track: Adam Lambert’s version of the U2 song, One.

Have any of you tried the Kara Goucher stretches, from the Nike Training Club app? I really like it, I think it has really helped me, and is one of the reasons I’ve been able to stay injury-free. Here’s a screen shot of the exercises:

IMG_1846

The first exercise is a hip flexor stretch, which I really like.

IMG_1847

The second stretch is a triangle stretch. I have terrible balance, so I try to take care when I do this one!

IMG_1848

The next stretch is a series of prone position leg swings. When I do this one, I don’t let my swinging leg touch the floor, which I think makes it a little more challenging, but I like that!

IMG_1849

The fourth stretch is supine scorpions: I don’t like these much! Too much co-ordination needed, which I just don’t have!

IMG_1850

The final exercise is an ITB stretch, using a resistance band. This one feels great!

IMG_1851

These exercises are all one minute stretches, totalling 5 minutes, and are repeated 3 times. It always feels great, after they are done! 😀

I’m trying to get my eating back on track, too, so my berries are now all ready and good to go:

IMG_1845

Today’s Life Lesson: you know that your handbag is too heavy when it triggers the seatbelt alarm in the car!

What’s your favourite stretch?

Home! Zzzzzzz…

Home! Zzzzzzz…

Good evening, one and all! @TheWelshWookie and I are home from our road trip, and we sound something like this:

ce1c5bb91394629d3beccc68e6100f14

We’ve had a fantastic weekend in Coventry, keeping up with the Joneses. Good food, and brilliant company. We’ve also had a few refreshments along the way:

Margaritas! Yum!

So, I’m now going to catch up on sleep, get prepared for the working week ahead, and get planning for our weekend away- again- next weekend. As it’s the RnR Dublin half marathon next Monday, I don’t have too much running planned for the week ahead, but I’ll keep you all posted.

Favourite driving track of the day: Perfect Ten, The Beautiful South

Today’s Life Lesson: all the crazies drive on the Motorway on Sundays….

What are your running plans for the coming week?
