Happy Friday all! Hope you all have a busy weekend, with lots of running planned 🙂
I hope you’ve survived today, being Friday the 13th, and a full moon. Spooky!
I stumbled across this on the satire site Waterford Whispers News and it really made me laugh. I hope you enjoy it for what it is, no offence is intended!
We started our Saturday off with a little run, involving a mahoosive hill, followed by a dip in the hot tub. It was a beautifully sunny day!
After an early lunch, we headed to Campbeltown, on an errand. I’ll reveal more about that later in the week 😉
On our way, we saw this:
And we also saw a few wakeboarders out enjoying the weather.
While there, we were lucky enough to see the pupils from the local school in a football tournament. It looked like they had a brilliant time, and the weather couldn’t have been better for them! Not only were there schools from around Argyll, but also from Dumbarton, Glasgow and other places. Everyone seemed to have a wonderful time!
We then headed to Muneroy Tearoom in Southend, which is the most southerly point on the Kintyre peninsula. Southend is also the place where St Columba set foot in Scotland, and has a cracking beach!
At the tearoom, we had FANTASTIC cake. They post pictures of their latest home baking delights, and we were not disappointed. @TheWookie had a Butterscotch Cream sponge, I had a Mint Choc cake. Wow. It was served slightly warm, with the icing just going gooey and was sprinkled with mint aero and had mint aero bubbles too. Oh, my. It was nom nom nom!
Given that the weather was so good, we drove back to Campbeltown the scenic route, and it was beautiful. Ailsa Craig and the Isle of Arran were partially hidden by the haze caused by the sunshine on the sea. We even saw some Highland Cows Heilan’ Coos sunbathing on the beach! Not something you get to see every day!
Today, I wore my RnR Madrid vest on a run for the first time, and got in an 8 miler. It was warm! So, of course, I finished up with another dip in the hot tub.
The GB Relay has begun today: good luck to all those running this week, and we’ll see you on Sunday in Argyll! 🙂
Are any of my fellow UK-based bloggers (or BBCWorldwide watchers) fans of the Great British Menu?
You all know how much I love to eat. I love to watch programmes about delish food too! I watch loads: Masterchef in all its forms, Hells’ Kitchen. The Great British Bake Off, Saturday Kitchen…. I could go on and on……
Well, this week is the Scottish heat of GBM, and I’m fully supporting Jacqueline O’Donnell 🙂
I LOVE her pink apron:

You may remember that back in January I wrote this post about The Sisters Restaurant? I had the sea bass in a lobster cream sauce:
It was absolutely delish!
Well, Jacqueline runs The Sisters along side her sister, Pauline. I’m keeping my fingers and toes crossed for Jacqueline, and all will be revealed tonight in some areas, and tomorrow in Scotland.
Frequent visitors will remember that Girl Runs Wild and I recently swapped MP3 players, and it was a fantastic experience! It was so different, discovering music I didn’t know, rediscovering some tunes I had forgotten about, and being surprised by tracks that we share on our running playlists.
I’m hoping you’ll forgive me, but for the next week, my focus is going to be on the wedding. I’ll still be running, but @TheWelshWookie and I have other priorities this week, not least enjoying it, and making the most of the final build-up. We’re now only eight days away from W-day. Squeeeee!
@TheWelshWookie found this on line the other day:
How cool is that? It’s one we definitely missed!
Today, I got in my 5K run for the 5×50 challenge, and I’m planning on keeping this on track over the next couple of weeks. I also spent time today trying on my wedding dress and accessories: thankfully the dress still fits fine! Phew! 🙂
So, do you have any running-related wedding advice for us?
Well, it’s now ten days until our wedding. TEN DAYS! The final double-digit day until @TheWelshWookie and I are married:)
On Saturday, I collected my dress, shoes and other last minute bits and pieces. We also ordered a Costco cake, just because I love ’em! So, I now reckon we’re completely organised. We have had one mishap, and if it’s the only glitch, I’ll be very happy. My mum & dad have a cake knife set, and it has been used by my sister and three brothers who are already married. And they have been engraved with their names and wedding dates. And so, the parentals arranged for our names and wedding date to be inscribed, too. But, @TheWelshWookie’s name has been misspelled! Oooops! While it’s a pity, I’m sure it will also be a future talking point!
On Sunday, @TheWelshWookie reached a huge milestone: his first ever double-digit run! We did a ten miler, in less than two hours, which I think was brilliant for a slow long run 🙂 We ran twice around the Glen road, and along the Kilberry road. It was perfect running weather, and I felt great during the whole run. More to the point, @TheWookie felt great too! 🙂
It was good to get that run under my belt, as I hadn’t run much during the previous week. And I was pleased that it was comfortable. I felt like I could have done the half marathon distance no problem: I hope that doesn’t curse things! 😮 The Hal Higdon plan is definitely working well for me.
After lunch on Sunday, we spent the rest of the day in the garden: tidying, clearing, and getting the outdoors looking a little more presentable! We also cleaned out the hot tub, and refilled it ready for use. So after such a busy day we really enjoyed winding down in the evening, with candles and amazing chocolate sent to me by Kyla over at earlybirdfitness. It was delish!
After a rest day yesterday (well, if you can call another two hours of gardening resting) we got a 5K in the bag tonight.
Now, we’re delighted to announce that……… the Hot Tub is OPEN!
After temporarily disappearing from Blogland over the weekend, I thought I’d explain why.
Friday night, @TheWelshWookie and I had the Hue and Cry gig that I was telling you about last week, and it was brilliant! The Kane brothers were entertaining as ever, and the play through of their ‘Bitter Suite’ album remained true to the original, with a few of the tracks updated a little. It was amazing!
We had a couple of drinks at the venue, along with a couple more later, including an apple & guava cider, and a nice GnT. Perfect.
On Saturday morning, we had a 5K planned. But, although I certainly felt fresh enough for a run, I decided to sleep in instead. It was bliss! We then hit the shops, as I had a few more bits to pick up for the wedding. @TheWookie got a new long sleeved running top from Run4It, which is lovely.
And, on Saturday afternoon, we had a great time: my nephew, Kieran, was a mascot at the SPL football match between Partick Thistle and Hibernian! He’s only five, but he was so great, and had a brilliant day. Kieran is a huge football fan, and Partick Thistle are his team: he goes to the games with his dad and granda.
Kieran went along early on Saturday with his dad and his granda, where they met the players and had a tour of the stadium. Next, he (along with the other two mascots) had a kick about on the pitch while the players warmed up. And just before kick off, they led the teams onto the pitch, and were there for the referee’s coin toss.
He must have been a lucky mascot, as Thistle won 3-1!
@TheWelshWookie and I went along to support him, along with his mum (my sis) and his brother, Aidan who – at three – was going to his first ever football match. He loved it too! My other nephews Ryan and Liam also came along, as did my other sis Angie, her BF Ryan and Kieran’s auntie and uncle Alison and Chris. It was a fab family day out!
I even, erm, ‘enjoyed’ a pie and bovril at half time 😉
After the game, we were all invited to the hospitality suite where Kieran was presented with a signed football by the Man of the Match, Kallum Higgenbotham. Lucky boy!
We then had a fab night back at my sis’ house, with a few vinos and a Chinese takeaway.
Sunday was grocery shopping, and driving home, tired after a busy-but-fun couple of days!
