Baubles from Run Destinations

Baubles from Run Destinations

When you’re away in a different city and running, do you buy yourself souvenirs?
I do! 🙂
Here are some of the new baubles we have collected this year:

20131208-174837.jpg
The first is my Harrods bauble, which I picked up when I was in London for The Color Run UK back in July. We always buy a Harrods bauble each year, and have done that since 2007, so we now have seven!
Next, is the silver ornament we bought at the Guinness factory in Dublin. We picked this up when we visited for the inaugural RnR Dublin half marathon in August.
Bottom right is a wooden heart with a reindeer’s head, which I got when in Centre Parcs for the Hen Do. Not a race, but I did go for a run that day.
Finally, the sparkly red reindeer is from The Tree Shop at Cairndow. We stopped off there after the inaugural CowalFest trail run, which was in October.
@TheWelshWookie and I have also given in to temptation, and bought some festive goodies.
We now have stollen, as well as these:

I’m looking forward to having a glass of mulled cider, and to tasting these cinnamon Pringles! They also had Mint Choc Pringles, but I though those were a step too far!
Anyone else tried those?
Meanwhile this weekend, I seem to have transformed completely into the embarrassing old auntie….

Tree Huggin’

Tree Huggin’

I didn’t run tonight.

But, @TheWelshWookie and I did go for a walk instead. We took a walk around Tarbert harbour, because it was a lovely cold, crisp evening.

And because we wanted to see the Christmas lights.

Now that power has been restored, the lights are on. There wasn’t a grand lighting ceremony as planned, but the village does look lovely and festive!

And for me, a lit Christmas tree means only one thing: that baby’s GOT to be hugged!

Here’s my hug of the tree in Coombe Abbey, Coventry two years ago:

And hugging Tarbert’s tree last year:

Here’s this year’s big hug:

It certainly gives the neighbours something to talk about!

What weird traditions do you have?

Movember Round Up

Movember Round Up

Well, now that we’re at the end of Movember, and staring down the barrel of December (yay!) I thought I’d do a quick Movember round-up.

Favourite run this month?

@TheWelshWookie and I really enjoyed the MoRun earlier this month:

And @TheWelshWookie has been sporting his Mo all month:

All in the name of charity 😉

I was delighted to find out that my MoRun race report was mentioned on the Mo Running website’s MoBlog!

Favourite food this month? Well, it’s been a toss-up between a bag of metcalfe’s popcorn and my pizza and salad last week:

What has been your Movember highlight?

Being Thankful.

Being Thankful.

I think I may have been born on the wrong continent. I LOVE Thanksgiving; it is so powerful!

While many of you are celebrating, holidaying and having family time, I’ll be working: but I’ll be thankful for that. I’ll be thinking about all of my own blessings, and those of my family today.

I’ll then be heading home to share in your traditions: good food, good company and football.

So, whatever you are doing, and whomever you are spending it with: enjoy. My thankful blessings are with you all!

POTM Confession Time

POTM Confession Time

It’s time to ‘fess up. We’re now nearing the end of the Pile on the Miles challenge, and I’m off target, with little chance of recovering- unless I somehow fit in a couple of marathons this week.

marathonbook

I had initially planned to achieve 150K this month. It looks like my mileage will be closer to 100K 😦

Thanks, padres- I feel better now I’ve gotten that out in the open! The main reason for my short mileage is a combination of being a wuss and not running in the dark, along with busy weekends away with no running, and with busier-than-usual evenings too.

So, I’m going to celebrate what I have achieved, and not get too downhearted. After all, we all know:

How have your November challenges gone?

Winning!

Winning!

Back in September, I shared with you my product review of the CrossTrain ID Bracelet. I’d been super-fortunate, and I had won it on Run Eat Repeat‘s fab blog.

I wouldn’t say I’m usually lucky: I seldom win raffles or anything like that, but this year I also won the ‘guess the number of midges in the jar’ comp at Tarbet Seafood Festival back in July:

My prize was champagne, sweeties and skin-so-soft to stop the midges biting! They say that the best things come in threes. And I’ve won my third comp of the year: a £50 voucher to spend at the wonderful Pink Poodle Boutique which is located in the West End of Glasgow. I’ve been shopping there since I was at University, waaay back last century, and they have all kinds of quirky, pretty gifts and treats for sale. 🙂 Here’s how I found out:

It’s also my third FaceBook competition win: in the past, I won six cupcakes and a Modalu handbag.

I love winning! I might never win a race, but that’s OK with me! 😀

What have you won before?

Almost St. Andrew’s

Almost St. Andrew’s

On our drive home today, I was thinking about the coming week: with Thanksgiving, followed by St. Andrew’s day on Saturday. As @TheWelshWookie and I will be in Coventry this weekend, I thought we’d better have haggis at some point this week, since we won’t have it on Saturday.
And so, we stopped off at the George Hotel in Inveraray for dinner. And what did I have? Oh, there was only one thing on my mind: haggis, neeps ‘n’ tatties, with a green peppercorn sauce. Yummy. Very winter-warming!

In keeping with foods with an ‘n’ in the name, @TheWelshWookie has fish ‘n’ chips:

We’re now home. And I’m road testing my new slipper socks…

I hope you’re having a comfy, cozy Sunday. Did you have a busy weekend or a quiet one?

Nathan’s Christening

Nathan’s Christening

Have you had a busy weekend, or a quiet one?

Mine has been busy. We had my nephew Nathan’s Christening yesterday, and we had a fantastic day.

Nathan with his mum and dad, and his god parents!

After the church service, we had a family meal in Paperino’s, Byres Road, which was great. Pizza and pasta. Yum!

We then had a brilliant family-party night, with lots of food, fun, dancing, and a few drinks 😉

Nathan liked his cake:

We’re now home: @TheWelshWookie is finally feeling a little more human!

Back to the running, rowing and strength work tomorrow 😉

You Found Me By Searching What? Part Two

You Found Me By Searching What? Part Two

A few weeks ago, I wrote a short post abut how some people had found my blog by searching ‘depressed quotes’!

Well, things must be looking up for me, as someone found me this week by searching for this:

photo (1)

Yay! Cool Movember motivation? That’s more like it!

pile-on-the-miles-2013-logo_thumb

It’s ‘fess up time. I’ve had some late nights this week, and so my POTM has slipped. I’m about 10K off target, which is not good; but is entirely recoverable, I hope!

How are you doing with your November challenges?

Getting Ready to Mo!

Getting Ready to Mo!

By the time you read this, I’ll be on my way through to Glasgow to run the MoRun on Saturday. Woo Hoo! I’m so excited!

I have my race number, so registration tomorrow morning should be pretty straight forward.

photo

I’ve also organised my race day gear, and it’s all safely packed away, ready. I’m still debating whether to wear a long sleeved base layer under my T-shirt. What do you think? The forecast is for light rain, with temps at around 5C/41F.

Would you like a sneak peek at my outfit?

And we have our snacks sorted: overkill for a 10K, right? I like to be prepared. We have enough to share!

I’ll let you know how tomorrow goes, wish me luck! 😀

What are your plans for the weekend? Are you running?
